[CANCELLED] Authenticiteit en de Groote Oorlog

Laurence Van Ypersele

talk

To organize the commemoration of the Great War – and to turn people’s attention on Flanders – the Flemish Government has focused on ‘authentic’ historical sites of conflict. It is true that this region, and especially the western corner of West Flanders, is home to numerous impressive sites that refer to this past. But do they have any meaning in themselves? What are the political, economic and didactic intentions behind these meanings, and how do we question them? Historian Laurence Van Ypersele delves into these questions, looking for answers.
